Twin Falls, ID offers an array of events to help residents celebrate the holiday season. On December 4, Times News is sponsoring the annual “Festival of Lights Parade.” For fans of the theater, the CSI Theatre Department is proud to present performances of It’s a Wonderful Life throughout the season. The Magic Valley Choir will certainly create a festive mood when they sing assorted Christmas classics on December 17. When you dress up for these holiday events or parties you attend, keep in mind the role that high heel shoes can play in the development and worsening of bunions.

Causes of Toe Deformities

These toe deformities are frequently associated with women’s footwear like stilettos and pumps, but they are not necessarily caused by the shoes. Rather, this is a condition that has genetic roots and may simply be exacerbated by footwear that does not offer adequate support, but instead places excess force on the front of the foot.

A bunion can be recognized by the protruding bump on the inside edge of the foot, right at the joint where the big toe and foot meet. In most cases, it is relatively easy to see that the big toe has become angled inwards. Besides the big toe pointing in, the long metatarsal bone in the foot will typically angle outwards, which contributes to the joint jutting out of place. (When the same misaligned joint forms at the 5th toe and metararsal, it’s called a bunionette.)

Bunion Pain

The primary symptom is the bulging bump, but others include soreness, swelling, and redness in the area. The deformity may cause intermittent or persistent pain and often increases the risk of calluses and corns where the toes overlap. Restricted movement of the big toe is yet another indication of this common issue.

Bunions can be the source of pain, discomfort, and deformity. Fortunately, you can find the care you need for the condition here at Advanced Foot and Ankle. We can administer conservative care to address symptoms or perform surgical procedures to correct the wayward bones associated with this condition.
